Why Rivany Labs exists

A note on what a software product studio is, and why Rivany Labs is built as one.

From the studio archive. This note is preserved as originally published.

Rivany Labs is a software product studio. We design, build and run digital products. Some we own and operate ourselves; others we build for the businesses that come to us. The two feed each other. Running our own products keeps us honest about what shipping and operating really cost, and client work keeps us close to problems we would never have met on our own.

The test we apply

Every product here started as a problem worth solving and building properly. The test is not whether a market exists, but whether the thing should exist, whether the world is mildly but persistently worse for its absence. We apply the same test to the work businesses bring us: we take on the problems we would be glad to have met.

That standard currently gives us three products of our own, FoundFi, Momry and Zansay, alongside work built for the people who bring it to us. Different domains, different identities, one standard. This journal is where we write about building all of it.
